Uptown Movie Club Presents....
Ken Russell's The Devils (1971)
WARNING: This trailer is not for everyone. The film is rated NC-17. It also contains flashing lights or patterns that may potentially trigger seizures for people with photosensitive epilepsy.
"The restoration of the material is like cleaning the Sistine Chapel with saliva. It is insane, the epic size of the film. I mean, I’ve seen it on the big screen in Telluride at a theater – but I’ve never never seen the movie until I saw this restoration.” - Guillermo del Toro
An enduring masterpiece of cinema starring Academy Award®- winner Vanessa Redgrave and Oliver Reed, Ken Russell's The Devils is a prescient epic of obsession and corruption – and a defining work of art from seminal filmmaker Ken Russell.
Assembled from the original camera negative, this new 4K restoration presents Ken Russell’s definitive vision of The Devils by referencing the edit he privately constructed in 2004. The Devils is the uncut and unfiltered theatrical experience that Russell always envisioned – and the first time the film will be presented restored and in 4K.
Schedule of Events - Wednesday, October 21st
Pre-Movie Social
5-6:30pm (last call 6:15pm)
Our mission is to connect neighbors while supporting Uptown businesses and we kick it off at Mari's with a pre-movie social. Although technically optional, we highly encourage you to attend our favorite part of the evening. You can feel the buzz in the air when you see a FULL Uptown business and new friendships being formed, all because of our mutual love of movies and Uptown. Did we mention you get a FREE DRINK when you show your movie ticket upon arrival??
Please order food, tip well, tell people about Mari's and become a repeat customer!
(There may or may be a scary movie themed raffle too......)
Screening of The Devils + Post-Movie Chat
7-9:30pm
I know we said the pre-movie social was our favorite part of the evening, but the movie and discussion after are equally awesome. Watch a scary movie in a local movie theater and stay in the theater and talk about it afterwards? Yes please. Post-movie discussion is also optional, but highly encouraged. No need to participate, you can be a fly on the wall!
This is also a great opportunity to test out a Halloween costume, we plan on it!
